Jay Cross A champion of informal learning and systems thinking, Jay's calling is to help people improve their satisfaction in life and performance on the job (they're not unrelated). His philosophies on the power of informal learning and net-work have fundamentally changed the world of learning in organizations Jay coined the term eLearning. He co-authored Implementing eLearning, founded Internet Time Alliance, served as CEO of eLearning Forum for its first five years, and writes for many industry publications. He is the author of Informal Learning: Rediscovering the Natural Pathways that Inspire Innovation and Performance and “The Working Smarter Fieldbook.” Jay is a popular speaker, having keynoted at many learning events and in-house groups. An internationally acclaimed strategist, speaker, and designer of corporate learning and performance systems, Jay is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Business School.

Nick van Dam
If ever there was a man to take to heart the phrase “you learn something new every day,” it’s Nick van Dam. As the global chief learning officer for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, and advisor to the Deloitte Consulting LLP Human Capital practice, Nick has a passion for knowledge. He is an idea generator, a visionary, a consultant and a thought leader. As an internationally recognized consultant and thought leader in learning and human resources development, Nick has written articles and has been quoted by Bizz magazine, BusinessWeek, The Financial Times, FORTUNE and T+D magazine, among others. He has authored and co-authored a number of books, including The e-Learning Fieldbook, The Business Impact of e-Learning, 25 Best Practices in Learning & Talent Development and most recently, NextLearning Unwrapped. He is founder and chairperson of e-Learning for Kids Foundation, which is a global nonprofit foundation that provides schools and children around the world with free Internet-based courseware. Nick is a graduate of the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam, with a bachelor’s degree in economics and pedagogy. He holds a master’s degree in organization and management from the Universiteit van Amsterdam. He earned his doctorate degree in business administration at Nyenrode Business University , Breukelen, The Netherlands. |
Karie Willyerd Karie Willyerd is an industry veteran and the former CLO for Sun Microsystems, where she led a team that won more than 30 awards from 2008 through 2010, including the ASTD No. 1 training department in the world. She is also the co-author of The 2020 Workplace: How Innovative Companies Attract, Develop, and Keep Tomorrow's Employees Today (http:// www.the2020workplace.com/). Karie has a doctorate from Case Western Reserve, a master's from Boise State, and a bachelor's from Texas Christian. She splits her time between San Francisco and Fort Collins, Colorado.

Leland Melvin talks about his team’s strategy to improve NASA's education offerings, while at the same time helping to usher in a new era of opportunity to inspire our next generation of explorers.

Leland Melvin Melvin serves on the White House National Science and Technology Council's Committee on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education, or CoSTEM. CoSTEM coordinates the STEM education activities and programs for all federal agencies, encourages the teaching of innovation and entrepreneurship and develops and implements a five-year STEM education strategy for all federal agencies. He is the United States representative on the International Space Education Board, or ISEB, a global collaboration in space education between NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, the European Space Agency, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and the Centre National d'Études Spatiales. The ISEB shares best practices and unites efforts to foster interest in space, science and technology among the student community worldwide. Leland Melvin holds his BS in Chemistry from the University of Richmond; was drafted by the NFL to the Detroit Lions, and then later spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and the Toronto Argonauts; served as a mission specialist in NASA’s astronaut corps on two space shuttle missions: STS-122 in 2008 and STS-129 in 2009; and now heads up the Office of Education at NASA. |

As a Navy pilot during the Vietnam war, Dave’s aircraft was destroyed over North Vietnam by a surface-to-air missile. He spent five and one half years as a P.O.W. in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton.” This experience taught him timeless lessons that have application in all of our lives.
From this experience, Dave helps people better understand how to overcome challenges in their own lives; to have the courage to lead. He empowers other to overcome seemingly insurmountable difficulties to gain a renewed sense of purpose, perspective, satisfaction and control over their circumstances. Just when you thought it was too much, Dave will inspire you to turn the challenge on its head. Hear how Dave taught fellow prisoners to speak French to evade control of the guards.

Dave Carey As a motivational speaker, Dave relates his story as a P.O.W. to help people better understand the prison-like aspects they may experience in their personal and professional lives. Told with intensity and humor, he inspires others. Dave also coaches individuals and groups for business and personal growth. He served as Director of Development for the SYMLOG Consulting Group and has been an adjunct staff instructor at the Center for Creative Leadership. His programs on value-centered leadership, team building and organizational development are powerful, practical, and filled with performance improving content. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Dave is a retired Navy Captain. He was three times a Commanding Officer and the Director of the Navy’s premiere site for leadership and management training. Among Captain Carey’s military awards are the Legion of Merit, five Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Purple Heart, eight Air Medals, and the Navy Commendation Medal. |
